Will this month’s department of labor’s unemployment report affect the elections? There will be an number of justifiable responses to this either way. However, if the report is good, it will probably help Democrats just as much as it will hurt them if the report is bad.
A positive report that lowers the unemployment rate may especially help the incumbents considering it would result in consecutive months of the unemployment rate going down. Conversely, if the report reflects low number for jobs added, it will give Republicans last minute ammunition to make the case that the economy is not on the consistent, or consistent enough long term upward trajectory they are claiming they can improve on.
Either way, this month’s report may be the most important of the year.
