According to the Friday, June 1st, 8:30 A.M. release by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Non Farm labor employment increased by only 69,000 in May of 2012. The unemployment rate was virtually unchanged at 8.2%.
With most economic analysts predicting roughly 150,000 or slightly more jobs added in May, the report was considered a disappointment by almost all analysts. The only sectors in which employment increased was health care transportation, warehousing and wholesale trade. Employment declined in construction and remained virtually unchanged in most other categories.
The number of unemployed persons was reported at 12.7 Million. The groups for which the unemployment rate increased was adult males at 7.8% and Hispanics at 11%. The unemployment rate for adult women was at 7.4%, teenagers, 24.6%, whites 7.4%, and blacks, 7.6%. The jobless rate for Asians was 5.2%, the lowest of all major categories, and this was down from 7.0% a year earlier.
